Credo Commits to Learning Community with edX Partnership

Credo announced it is contributing features and enhancements to the open edX initiative, the leading nonprofit online learning destination founded by Harvard and MIT. EdX offers interactive online courses and MOOC’s (Massive Open Online Courses) from the world’s best universities and institutions.

Mike Sweet, Credo’s Chief Executive Officer, said his company has been making significant investments in research and development in edX’s enhanced capabilities, specifically in reporting, learning outcomes tracking and analysis.

“We are honored to give back to the higher education learning community,” Sweet said. “And we are appreciative of the opportunity to work with edX as it offers the highest quality courses from institutions who share a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.”

The edX platform is an open source course management system, and is used all over the world. EdX’s LMS is the tool learners use to access course content, including videos, textbooks, and problems, and to check their progress in the course.

Sweet said one of the most significant benefits from Credo’s contributions to edX is the ability to tag questions in edX Studio, its open tool where users build their courses. Tagging questions allows tracking information across courses, such as whether students can successfully meet a learning outcome. This information is available to view in edX’s Analytics reports, and can be used to understand student comprehension and evaluate the effectiveness of instructional materials.

Boston-based Credo has partnered with more than 2,500 libraries over the last 16 years to drive more effective and efficient student research activities. Credo has also been developing instructional content in partnership with librarians and faculty to improve student research outcomes.
